Forbidden Saint Paul Concert reviews
The National were very enjoyable
We played the latest CD 'High Violet' on our way to the concert and re-read the lyrics to get into our 'game face'. I was curious what kind of crowd would be there and of what age, being well over 50, at least me, based on the rather melancholy tone of the songs. Anyway, I believe I was in the top 5 based on my personal observation. The energy and sound at the show was great. I absolutely enjoyed it. The songs were true but in a more hopeful way, not the - what I would call depressive - mood from High Violet. Matt's voice is one I wish I had - deep strong baritone. The band engaged the crowd as well and played mostly from High Violet and Boxer. They were enjoying themselves, and the crowd loved it. The venue is one I love (second time there - saw Arcade Fire there). The band was not tight on their endings on a few songs and made occasional slips but not to the point that it was terribly distracting. Would recommend seeing them.
